Adam Cooke
Originally from Belfast, Adam moved to England to study for a degree in Music at the University of Manchester. Whilst in Manchester Adam held positions on trombone with many of the regions top brass bands, including winning the Grand Shield with the Leyland Band and also competing at the National Finals, English Nationals, and British Open.Following completion of his undergraduate studies, Adam was offered a scholarship to study on the prestigious orchestral training Masters course at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. During his time at the Guildhall, Adam had the opportunity to participate in access schemes with leading ensembles such as the London Symphony Orchestra and Philharmonia Orchestra.Adam undertook studies in conducting whilst in Manchester with Mark Heron, and later with Sian Edwards at the Guildhall. He is regularly engaged as a conductor across a range of diverse music genres. As a conductor of brass, Adam has worked with bands such as Leyland, Aveley and Newham, GUS, and was musical director of the Hoover (Bolton) Band and University of Manchester Brass Ensemble. He is currently the musical director of Becontree Brass, and Vaganza Brass - the joint brass band of the University of Manchester and Royal Northern College of Music, specialising in modern repertoire for the genre. Adam is also principal conductor of the New Belfast Sinfonia - Belfast's leading young symphony orchestra.As well as working as a freelance trombonist and conductor, Adam is a brass tutor for the London Boroughs of Newham and Wandsworth.
