Becontree Brass Band is a 1st Section band located on the border of East London and Essex. We rehearse every Monday in Barkingside, and take part in many concerts and contests.
The band was founded in 1981 by players from Barking and Dagenham Playleaders Band, Barking Concert Band and Dagenham Silver Band. Our members come from London and Essex, with a wide range of backgrounds in brass playing, and we regularly perform in London and all over South East England.
As well as concerts in the local area, Becontree also takes part in the National Brass Band Championships, competing in the London and Southern Counties area, as well as taking part in several local contests. Since 2007, the band also competes in the Mineworkers contest, held at Butlins in Skegness.
The band have recently taken part in a recording for Channel 4 television in an original composition by composer Benjamin Till, and played a big part at the Royal Wedding on 29th April, appearing on BBC Radio 2 with Chris Evans in St. James's Park, playing to thousands.
